Poultry Odours

Poultry produce a manure very high in Nitrogen hence ammonia can be a significant problem, particularly where manure is allowed to accumulate, gets wet or damp and decomposes.

The first part of the remedy is to limit the buildup or accumulation of manure.  Remove it to a separate well ventilated area.  It can be safely and effectively composted using Smellgone sprays and powders.  See the Composting Section.

In the home poultry shed, sprinkle Smellgone Odour Control Powder over the floor area, at the rate of 250 g (about one handful) per square metre of floor space.  The powder will effectively control odour and assist in the safe breakdown of the manure in the shed litter material.

For hard surface areas we recommend using our odour control sprays to build up an odour control buffer in the surface itself.  Please contact us for details.

Commercial Poultry Production

For cage egg and broiler production, additional control methods are usually necessary because of the high density of animals.  Please contact us for further information on an odour control program to suit your needs.
